I Think I'm a Witch: What Are the Next Steps?

  • Author:
  • Updated date:

Born in deepest Cornwall, now living in wild Wales, Bev has been practising her personal brand of eclectic witchcraft for years and years.

Do you ever wonder if you are a witch? Or perhaps you are certain of it? Either way, you are very likely confused and unsure of what to do about it. If you need to check some of the signs of being a witch, you can hop over to this article, 'Are You a Witch?’ before reading on.

You Don’t Have to Do Anything

First of all, relax. There’s nothing you have to do. Really. Being a witch is who you are, not something you do. You’ll come across cauldron-loads of sites that offer instructions and say you must do this and do that. Ignore all. You are a witch, and that’s all that matters.

Having said that, most newly self-discovered witches want to take it a step further. They want to explore what it means to be a full-on, energy-manipulating powerful woman (or man). So I’m here to make it easy for you to decide how to proceed.

Educate Yourself in the Ways of Witchcraft

For anyone who thinks they have witchy tendencies, the first thing to do is to educate yourself on the basics. Before you reach out to any groups or individuals, make sure to find out what it’s all about. You need to know what you are getting into.

So read, read, and read some more. Read good stuff and not-so-good. Make notes in the margins about what appeals to you.

Remember, though, that all authors have their own perspective on witchcraft. You will have your own perspective, too, so discard anything that doesn’t resonate with you. In some cases, it might be everything they write. And that’s okay. The more you can pare it all down, the better you will carve out your own personal version of witchcraft.

Topics to pay attention to are:

  • The seasons
  • Moon cycles
  • Manipulation of energy
  • Meditation
  • Your connection to the earth.

Some of the best material is not classified under witchcraft, so I encourage you to read other sources too. It’s good not to get bogged down in all the rituals and accompanying information too soon.

Other Sources of Information

YouTube has a ton of witch-related videos. Some will resonate with you, others will put you to sleep, and some will even send you screaming into the hills. Again, I can’t emphasize this enough; you don’t have to subscribe to anyone else’s views other than your own.

I love the video below by Jessi Huntenburg. She is so down-to-earth and real. Her take on witchcraft mirrors my own. Watch out for a little bit of swearing. Her idea of working with archetypal characters in pop culture is excellent.

Podcasts are also useful. Beware of the hyper-witches, though. For some reason, many people think the more hysterical and upbeat they are, the better witches they are. This is not so. The people who have an inner serenity are way more authentic than the screamy kind.

The Religious Option

那些认为巫术宗教愈伤组织ng, you will probably be drawn to Wicca. Wicca is a highly ritualized path with the benefit that the information is well-organized and readily available. There are many Wiccan groups all over the world, and finding one is not difficult. Most Wiccans are kind and welcoming and pleased to help a new witch along his or her path.

巫术崇拜的一个最好的支持者是丽莎Chamberlain. Her book,Wicca for Beginners: A Guide to Wiccan Beliefs, Ritual, Magic, and Witchcraft, is highly rated, and if Wicca is your thing, you should grab a copy and carry it everywhere.

Lisa defines Wicca thusly: "Wicca is classified as a nature-based religion encompassing a wide variety of beliefs, traditions, and practices inspired by many different sources—Wiccans often refer to these sources as “the Old Religion.”

Despite that, Wicca has its origins in a very modern form of witchcraft—and that's a good thing for people starting out. Be aware that witchcraft, in general, doesn’t need to have religious connotations at all. It is whatever it is to you. It’s personal.

The Solitary Option

A ‘solitary’ is a witch who practices by herself. Let’s assume, for the sake of brevity, that she is a she for now. Apologies to any male solitaries out there. The solitary works alone and usually in secret. She sets about teaching herself what she needs to know. She may well follow a Wiccan path, or she may not. As always, it’s down to personal choice.

The "Just Be Yourself" Option

This is probably the most common path. Those who have that certain way with energy, a closeness to nature, and confidence that they are masters and mistresses of their own destiny, will often simply choose to be themselves. They don’t need any accouterments or deities to worship. They are simply who they are. And this is perfectly fine.

I like to call it 'Simple Witchcraft'.

Tread gently on the earth

Breathe gently of the air

Lie gently in the water

Touch gently to the fire.

Paths of a Witch

Whatever your main choice of how you practice the craft, within it are little avenues that branch off. Sometimes these little avenues become the focus of your practice. For example, when I began, it was suggested that I choose a skill to learn. I decided on tarot. Gradually, the study of tarot took over everything else for me, and it’s only in the last few years that I’ve been called back to the more general study and practice of witchcraft.

Some witch-related paths:

  • Healing
  • Divination
  • Magic and Spells
  • Music
  • Crystals
  • Herbalism
  • Storytelling
  • Art
  • Gardening/conservation
  • Working with animals
  • Counseling

Tools and Accoutrements

Let’s face it; witchcraft is an industry, and that means there are some canny marketers out there. Know this: you don’t need any expensive tools or clothes to be a witch. If you need items to help you focus on a ritual, you can start with:

  • A candle, even a tea light, will suffice to represent the element of Fire and the direction/quarter South
  • A pebble represents the element of Earth and the direction/quarter North.
  • A paring/veg peeling knife to be your athame (ritual knife) and to represent the element of Air and the direction/quarter East
  • A glass of water or wine to represent the element of Water and the direction/quarter West.
  • A smooth twig or sick to be your wand.

A lovely thing to do is to go out for walks to look for natural objects you can use in rituals. Always ask permission, and give thanks to any tree that graciously donates a wand.

You can substitute these with anything that works better for you.

There’s No Time Like Right Now to Cast a Circle

Okay, maybe you can do it later, but casting a circle is fun, and you never forget your first time. A really good thing would be to carry out your first circle-casting at the time of the full moon. When witches gather at this time, it's called an 'esbat.' On other occasions, such as the solstices and other major witch celebrations, the gatherings are called 'sabbats.'

Here’s a suggestion for your first ritual. Cast a circle to provide protection and a bubble of love while you pledge to dedicate yourself to the study of witchcraft.

  • Step One: wear something comfortable and decide where you will work. You need some decent floor space because you are going to sit down in the circle.
  • Step Two: gather your tools, if you have any. They are not mandatory--when I mention using a wand or athame, just point your finger instead. A cushion to sit on is also a good idea. Place them on the floor or a low table.
  • Step Three: make sure you won’t be interrupted.
  • Step Four: stand still, close your eyes for a moment and breathe deeply.
  • Step Five: clarify your intent for the ritual. In this case, it is to experience working with energy and to pledge yourself to the craft.
  • Step Six: hold up your wand and turn to the East. Say, “I call upon the guardians of East and Air to watch over and protect me. Do the same, in turn with the other three quarters, going clockwise (or deosil): East (air), South (fire), West (water), North (earth). If you live in the southern hemisphere, do it in reverse order.
  • Step Seven: point your wand and describe a circle around yourself and your tools. Again clockwise/deosil. Visualize the circle forming a sphere. Now don’t step through the circle; stay within its boundaries. If you have to leave the circle because you need the loo or anything, use your athame/kitchen knife to 'cut' an imaginary doorway. Oh, and cats, dogs, and small children can pass through the circle with no harm done.
  • Step Eight: light your candle and sit on the floor. You can close your eyes if you like. Feel energy rising up through the floor and into your body. Imagine this strong earth energy filling your circle/sphere and mingling with the air, fire, and water energy.
  • Step Nine: when you are ready, say, “Within these walls, within this circle, and within my heart, I dedicate myself to the craft. I ask that the guardians support me and help me as I explore this path. Blessed be.”
  • Step Ten:只要你喜欢坐。然后站起来比k each of the guardians in reverse order, turning anti-clockwise (widdershins): North, West, South, East. “I thank you, guardians, of the North and earth. Please go in peace.”
  • Step Eleven: Pick up your athame and turn widdershins (anti-clockwise) to disperse the circle.
  • Step Twelve: Have something to eat and drink to ground yourself.

随着时间的推移,你会适应和改变你的圆casting ritual to fit your preferences. It can be as complicated or as simple as you like. Your circle is a space where you are one step removed from the ‘real world.' It is where you raise energy to work your magic. It is where you commune with spirits, guides, ancestors, and any deities or archetypes you want to work with.

Any Questions?

I hope I’ve given you some ideas on how to get started. I didn't want to overwhelm you with information. The most important thing is not to stress or worry about it all. Being a witch will unfold over a lifetime. Some of you will take to it; others will try it and move on. That’s how it goes.

Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments section below.

Merry Part and Blessed Be.

Note: I don’t actually go round saying that to people; I say, “Bye, see you later” most of the time. It means the same thing.

Questions & Answers

Question:I was brought up a Christian, and I adhere to the principles of Christianity. However, I still feel drawn to witchcraft - what do I do?

Answer:It's perfectly possible to be a modern witch and be Christian at the same time. Both faiths/paths have a lot in common. Being a witch today is not the same as the witches mentioned in the bible.

Question:Would it be safe to cast a circle if you are thirteen and above?

Answer:I'm not sure if I'm responding to the same person, but again, I do not advise anyone of your age to begin dabbling in witchcraft as you can't know the possible consequences. Please read this article for further guidance:https://hubpages.com/wicca-witchcraft/Im-a-Young-T...

It gives suggestions about how to study witchcraft before you make up your mind. It even helps you perform a short dedication ritual. However, as for more advanced energy manipulation (spellcasting), please wait until you are older and know what you are doing.

Question:When doing research, what is a good rule to go by to know if the information is fantasy or truth?

Answer:If the claim, or instruction, or information can be seen or acted upon, then it's real. Things like magical properties are difficult to ascertain, but see if you can find other resources that correlate. Some information is based on myth and legend, so it's up to you whether you incorporate it or not. If it's about werewolves, vampires, shape-shifters, etc. it's fantasy. You can always come here and ask.

Question:You've described me through and through with both posts. I know in my heart of hearts that I am gifted. Do you have any advice in tuning into my abilities more? I find it difficult to break from bad habits, and my body takes a toll from worry and stress. And my abilities are not present 100% of the time. Would your advice be more practice and self-care?

Answer:I think you should just take it easy and gradually incorporate tiny witchy practices into your daily life. It doesn't have to be a chore. Try this:

https://hubpages.com/wicca-witchcraft/50-Ways-To-B...

Question:I've always been very interested in witches and the practice of witchcraft. How can I know for certain if I'm a witch or if I'm simply fascinated by it?

Answer:Witchcraft is a path you choose. So if you want to be a witch you can be one. There are certain characteristics that most witches share. They are the traits that draw them to witchcraft in the first place. Have a look here:https://hubpages.com/wicca-witchcraft/Are-You-a-Wi...

Question:I have always had thoughts and scenarios that have come to reality. It has driven me to drink to try to avoid what I was raised to believe through my Catholic upbringing to be wrong. But when I drink, I feel things more clearly. How do I know, even if I scored 10 out of 10 that I have witch tendencies if that is true?

Answer:'Witch tendencies' does not mean you are a witch. Witchcraft is a spiritual path, a path of study. What you describe is clairvoyance, and a lot of people have it. It's not a sin. It just is. It means is that you are able to tune into energy. Or the collective unconscious, or the Akashic Records, or whatever you want to call it. This other realm does not have time, so you are able to tap into future events as though watching it happen.

If you want to be a witch, that's a different thing altogether and is your choice to make. You can use your psychic gifts in witchcraft, sure, but you don't have to be a witch to use them.

Question:Should you still attend church if you were brought up Christian?

Answer:Only you can decide if you want to attend church. There are many witches who hold Christian values. Thousands of years ago, everyone knew they had access to 'universal energy'. It was only when organized religion came along that certain people (those in charge) decided that ordinary people needed to give up that knowledge and rely on someone to intercede for them. There is nothing wrong with following the teachings of Jesus and believing in God - just know that you have direct access and you don't need anyone's help with that.

Question:I was told by my grandparents that I'm a white witch with many gifts. I'm an empath, and a psychic. I have no idea where to begin and I feel like I'm wasting my talents. Where should I start? I want to help people.

Answer:If you feel you want to help people, then begin helping people. You don't have to wield a wand to do that. Choose a job or volunteer position where you can be of service or one where you can talk to people. A kindly manner is always appreciated. Your magick can come through the mundane. Those who come into contact with you will feel it.

I'm not convinced by the white witch concept, which is why I never mention it. Witches are people, and people aren't perfect. We are all shades of every color.

Question:I feel like I need to have someone guide and teach me how to be a witch. How do I find someone like that?

Answer:There are many online witchy and pagan forums. Do a Google search to see what you can find. Sometimes you will find the perfect 'tribe' for you. Someone there will be able to guide you.

Question:Where do I find beginner spells for witches? I've always been attracted to witchcraft and felt different. Now I'm ready to follow my path.

Answer:I have some suggestions:

Question:Do you know anyone in the U.S. that I could learn witchcraft from? I’ve been into witchcraft as long as I remember. I live in Kentucky, and it’s so anti-witch that it’s tough to find a teacher of the craft.

Answer:不,恐怕不行。我在英国witchvox.c试试om, or the Pagan Federation:https://us.paganfederation.org/

Question:Does an athame have to be a ritual knife, or can it be any kind?

Answer:It can be any. It can even be a wooden historical play/re-enactment dagger:

Question:I have a tingling sensation everytime I look at the moon and sometimes I feel energy coming from places or things. Also my dreams become reality and it makes me feel strange sometimes. When I go to a church (my family is Christian) I feel a weird sensation inside my body. How do I know if I'm really a witch?

Answer:You know you are a witch when you have completed at least a year's in-depth study and feel confident practising witchcraft. What you describe are nudges by your intuition, hinting that there is more to life than what most people perceive.

Question:Does a secular witch have their own kind of spells, or they can do spells other witches would do?

Answer:Secular simply means non-religious. A secular witch is one that does not worship any deity, therefore they don't follow a religious path. Any witch can do any kind of spell.

Question:If I dedicate myself to the study of witchcraft, can anything bad happen to my friends or family?

Answer:No.

Question:I'm afraid of casting a circle as I think something bad might happen to me, maybe because of the movies. What should I do?

Answer:It's best not to pursue witchcraft if you are fearful. It's not a good idea to start messing around with circles and spell-casting. Your fear will distort the outcome. Find another interest.

Question:Could a small child be a witch?

Answer:No. It is possible for a child to have psychic abilities, but witchcraft is a path you can choose or reject at any time. A child would have to be able to make a conscious choice. I would not recommend anyone encourage a child to be a witch until they had reached at least the age of 17, and even then I'd be very cautious.

Question:Why have I always questioned the ways of the world? I have been careful not to question myself, allowing my ways to manifest without any whys or hows. I haven't any outside knowledge; no books have I ever read on any witchy subjects. But now I'm in a place where I desperately need to converse with someone on these matters. I need help to figure out exactly what it is I am? Am I a witch?

Answer:There are many ways to contact like-minded people. You could:

Do a search on 'witchcraft *your area*'.

Join a Facebook group.

Look around for local eco or pagan groups.

Start reading :)

Meanwhile, you are who you are; You are not a 'what'. You don't need a label.

Question:If I don't like the witches branches already available. Is it possible to have my own branch?

Answer:Of course, and many do, it's called an 'eclectic' path, where you take bits of traditions that you like and create your own. More information here:https://hubpages.com/wicca-witchcraft/What-Kind-of...

Question:Can a kid be a witch? I am 100% sure I am one. Also if I am a witch, do I have to keep it to myself or could I tell anyone I want?

Answer:It's unlikely that a child can be a fully-fledged witch because so much of a witch's knowledge comes from life experience, and a child won't have the life skills necessary. You may well have psychic skills, and that's a whole other thing. However, the path of witchcraft involves a lot of study and dedication.

You can tell anyone you want, but be prepared to have them laugh at you. That's just the way it is.

Question:Is it okay to bring my phone into the circle and read it in case I forget what to say?

Answer:You can try it, but much better to use old fashioned pen and paper. Copying out what you have to say in writing has magical energy in itself.

Question:How can I find a mentor to guide me on my path to becoming a witch?

Answer:You don't need a mentor, you can find your own way. It's not necessary to have someone holding your hand. Get a few books, read some websites, join some online groups, and just incorporate witchcraft into your life in small ways.

Question:What if I can't feel energy but I am everything else?

Answer:You can feel energy with a little practice. Sit quietly. Rub your hands together, hard. Feel that tingle? Now move your hands slowly until they are about a foot apart. Now bring them back together very slowly. You can feel a little resistance, yes? If not, keep trying. That's energy. It's sticky.

The energy inside you expresses itself as emotion. So when you feel really happy or really angry, that's strong energy. That's what you use when working spells. Your energy impresses itself on universal (sticky) energy and brings your desire.

Question:I feel tingly in my hands. What does that mean?

Answer:For me, it is the movement of energy through my body. I feel it strongest in my hands. When I feel it, I know I'm ready to do a good tarot reading, to heal myself or work a little magic.

Question:Can I be a witch without doing magic?

Answer:Absolutely. You can do anything you like. Examples of non-magickal witchcraft are: herbalism, healing, gardening, cooking, music, etc. You can live a witchy life without doing deliberate spellwork.

Question:How did you find out that you are a witch? Do your powers work all of the time or only some of the time?

Answer:I didn't suddenly discover I was a witch. It was something I was drawn to from an early age. I found it fascinating. I had no idea someone could be a witch in this day and age. I found out that all I had to do was choose that pathway and it would be mine.

'Powers' is just another word for energy work. It's about having a clear intention of what outcome you want and then knowing with no doubt whatsoever that it will happen, even if it doesn't happen the way you expect it. And yes, it doesn't always work, but if you keep an open mind and be aware of all the opportunities, you might be surprised when you least expect it.

Question:After casting the spell circle, when do I cast the spell?

Answer:是的。你会拼写在第9步。Obviously, it will take longer than the pure dedication in the example. So, for instance, you might be doing a 'get good grades' spell so that you would perform the ritual at the point shown in Step 9.

I have another article which will help you with beginning spells:https://hubpages.com/wicca-witchcraft/How-To-Begin...

Question:I have a tingling sensation throughout my body whenever I read or discuss witchcraft. If I'm in a church, it's almost overwhelming. I have always been drawn to this, and I deeply feel that I was burned at the stake lifetimes ago. How would I ever get confirmation of this?

Answer:You'd have to get a course of hypnotherapy or some other guided pathway work.

It sounds as though you are sensitive to energy, so explore how it affects you and if you can manipulate it.

Question:I am a novice at the practice, but I feel that I have always had the essence inside of me. Tonight I was raising energy for my meditation and had cast the circle, but I was interrupted and called downstairs urgently. I closed the circle in immense haste. I don't think I did properly. What do I do?

Answer:Firstly, please don't worry. There are no penalties or punishments for going off script. These little glitches help us make it better next time. The one thing to take away from witchy-ness is that anything goes. It didn't work out as you planned, but so what? It'll be better next time.

There's no Big Witch in the sky who's going to smite you for getting it wrong, because there is no 'wrong'. Keep going!

Question:I have been casting spells. I am new at this. I don't know if it's working. What do I do to make the spell work?

Answer:If you are new to witchcraft, you probably shouldn't be trying to cast spells at all. Spells are basically an attempt to manipulate energy to get a desired outcome.

Unfortunately, many people think it's fun, or glamorous, or clever to try and cast spells, when they don't understand the consequences of doing so.

The best thing to do is to practice on simple things like blessing a vehicle so that you travel safely, or to get a parking space, or even to gain a small amount of money.

Please don't try and do spells that try to manipulate other people -- that is just wrong and can backfire on you big time.

Question:Can you cast a circle with a friend?

Answer:You can, but if you are young, say under the age of 17, I wouldn't advise it. Circle casting is not about playing, it's about creating a sacred space. Witchcraft isn't what you see on TV shows. It deserves respect. While I wouldn't want to frighten you, it is possible to accidentally invite negative energy to attach itself to you.

Question:I have always known I am a witch with magic powers. Do I need a guide or mentor?

Answer:No, you don't need a guide or mentor. You can explore and find your own way.

It's possible that someone will show up along the way to help you. Be open to all opportunities, but don't let anyone take advantage of you.

Question:How do you bless the objects around you?

Answer:You can bless them simply by looking at them or touching them and feeling appreciation for them. You could say thank you, if you like.

You can walk around your vehicle and say silently something along the lines of 'I thank you for protecting me and transporting me safely to my destiny.' Best to make up your own version; it's more personal and, therefore, powerful.

Question:Is anything supposed to happen after making a witches' circle?

Answer:Nothing you can see, but you might feel a rush of energy. If you don't then you can use your own emotions to raise the necessary energy. If you are unsure what I mean this page might help:

https://hubpages.com/wicca-witchcraft/How-To-Begin...

Question:Do I have to dedicate myself to Witchcraft, or can I just practice it casually? The way the casting a circle part goes it feels a bit like I'd be signing my soul to witchcraft (I know I'm probably not). I don't want to upset any spirits and get bad luck by not dedicating myself in the way it seems to imply. I want to try it, but I don't know how committed I'd be.

Answer:If you read the article thoroughly, I explain that you can do it any way you want to. The protection ritual is just a simple way to become familiar with a solitary ritual. Casting a circle is a protective measure, not a dedication. A dedication could be performed as described, but it's not necessary. If I were you, I'd spend time researching and learning before doing any actual spellcasting. Learn what it's about first. Casual is fine, but please know what you are doing.

Question:Is it okay to be a witch but also have Christian beliefs?

Answer:Yes, it's possible. There are many Christian witches out there. Some say that Jesus was the greatest witch ever.

Question:I was told my grandmother had the gift of clairsentience and practiced being a white witch. Can this be inherited? I've recently had an awakening and resonated with everything I'm reading. Things are making so much sense now.

Answer:Yes, it's possible to inherit psychic abilities. It's sometimes like a thread running through families, missing some members while catching on others. Of course, you get to choose whether to be a witch or not.

Question:A white witch told me I have a gift to see the future and it’s very strong do you know any way that I can practice it so I can be better at it?

Answer:Well, to be honest, no-one else can know what psychic gifts you have. Also there's no such thing as a white witch. Anyone who calls themselves that is usually self-delusional or doesn't understand how witchcraft really works.

If you can see the future, just keep a journal of your visions or dreams or however the messages come to you. The more you pay attention, the more you will recognize them. Bear in mind that not all clairvoyants are witches, neither are all witches clairvoyant.

Question:Is there a certain age that is too young to find out you are a witch?

Answer:It's not about age; it's about having the wisdom necessary to be a witch. For instance, a witch has a responsibility to know how to use energy so that no-one (or herself) is harmed in any way. She needs to learn that anything she puts out into the world in the way of magickal work has the potential to come right back at her. She has to learn that she can't manipulate people's feelings and emotions. Or to work love spells that bind another person to her because she'll be the one that will end up being trapped.

Being a witch is a lifetime study, so I would say that it's never too early to start learning, but restraint in working with energy is necessary until you have the life experience and wisdom to know how to do it properly.

Question:Can I practice being a witch in a shared room?

Answer:You can be a witch in your own thoughts. You don't have to do anything except be aware of your connection to the earth. When you get the chance, when you are outside, then you can add tiny rituals into your daily routine.

Question:I never really knew about this stuff until I read about it and it really intrigued me and I found myself wanting to learn more and being drawn to it. Do I need to tell people I believe I'm a witch?

Answer:如果你不想去做。你的精神生活是personal and private. I would say to keep it quiet until you have explored the possibilities a little longer.

Question:Could you please explain what a witch mark is?

Answer:This stems from the time of the witch trials in the 16th and 17th centuries. They are nothing more than natural moles and marks that most humans have. However, they were used as 'evidence' that the devil had marked the person.

As witches don't worship, or even acknowledge there is such a thing as the devil (it's mainly a Christian construct), these things are just silly superstition and should be ignored.

Question:Do you have family who are witches? Did they help you learn how to to use your powers?

Answer:No, not at all as far as I know. But I'm Cornish (South West pointy bit of England), and there were and are a lot of witches there.

You are confused about these 'powers' aren't you? There are no special powers. Anyone can learn to work with energy. Some are better at it than others, but we don't have magical powers in the way you think.

Question:Could I be considered a bad person by my family, friends, or in the eyes of God?

Answer:Of course you could. And that might happen whatever you choose to do. When you are old enough, you can make your own mind up.

Question:Is it possible for spirit animals to help you?

Answer:I don't know. I have lots of real animals but have never encountered a spirit animal. I like to think the spirit of my passed over kitties hang around once in a while. Lots of people say they see them though.

Question:What if I don't have anyone to join me in a circle casting?

Answer:The circle casting described is for a solitary witch. You don't need anyone else. The point of casting the circle is to create a protected sacred space. Try it and see how it goes.

Question:I had a feeling for a long time I could be a witch. I did read the information. It says I am a natural witch. I am happy about it. Does this mean I was right? Will my magic start happening on its own? What should I do?

Answer:All your questions are answered in the article. Nothing will happen by itself. You are not going be 'taken over' by magic powers. It just doesn't work like that. You've been watching too many TV shows and movies.

It sounds to me like you are very young, and shouldn't even be thinking about all this. Your priority is your school work. Forget the witch stuff until you get older.

Question:There's someone I consider as my guide/master in my life. I really respect him and I believe in him 100%. The thing is I've known him in my dreams since my childhood. He taught me a lot and guided me in my darkest days. I know his name and I started feeling his existence. I hear his whispers in my mind since that dream I had 7 yrs ago. He made a silver ring from our blood and gave it to me .. I talked about that once with my mother but she thinks that I'm imagining. What do you think?

Answer:It sounds as though you have found your spiritual guide. You are very lucky. You could keep a journal of all his manifestations and messages. Don't feel that you have to share him with anyone else-- it's always likely that you won't be believed.

Question:I believe I was born a witch. I have no idea what to do now. I have no idea what kind I am, or what is the first thing I should do now. How do I find out?

Answer:I have some other articles that might set you off in the right direction:

Here's a list of many witchcraft traditions. Make a note of the ones that appeal to you and then research them:https://hubpages.com/wicca-witchcraft/What-Kind-of...

Here's another one that should help you feel more relaxed about the whole thing://www.qipsosim.com/wicca-witchcraft/Simple-Witc...

This one focuses on how and why witchcraft works:https://hubpages.com/wicca-witchcraft/Witchcraft-a...

Question:Why are my spells not working? I have been working hard to raise magic energy and visualizing what I would like to happen. What could I do to make the spell work? Could you tell me what I need to do?

Answer:Yes, you are probably trying too hard and maybe even missing the point of spell-casting. The idea is to produce change in some way. It's not magic in the sense of tricks. Sometimes spell results take weeks and months to manifest. The key is to remain open to all possibilities.

Marlon, there is absolutely nothing to apologise for - really :) I thought your original comment was lovely and it's fine to have a different opinion. I suppose I thought you meant that you had to be born a witch or you couldn't be one. And some people do believe that - and that's okay with me too.

The part where you say, "we all come from ancestry that is pagan and magickal.." is exactly what I believe. I think everyone had access to magick, or 'energy manipulation', but those who thought they were better than the masses inserted themselves between the source and the people. Hence the growth of religion and its control over society - for so many centuries.

MARLON BELTRANon August 23, 2020:

Hi Bev;

I'm sorry that my explanation came out sounding like that. I did not mean as if one is either a witch or not. The craft is for anyone who has a sincere and honest desire to be. I do believe we all come from ancestry that is pagan and magickal. What I wanted to say is with some people, they are already witches. I will be more careful in choosing my words. Please accept my apology.

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on August 14, 2020:

Hi Marlon, I respectfully disagree. I wasn't born into a witch family, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a real live, practicing witch until I became an adult. Maybe I always was one but didn't know it, but for me it was a conscious choice.

I'm glad you enjoyed the article. Thank you.

MARLON BELTRANon August 13, 2020:

Hello, Bev;

I just think one is a witch and that's that. Of course, there is a possibility that a person could learn to become one. I've been reading up on the ways, and to me, it sounds like things I already knew. I am very eclectic towards life, even music. I incorporate things that come naturally and not get into things that don't interest me. I appreciate your article very much and I thank you.

Hi Elisabeth, witchcraft is a chosen path. If you follow certain traditions (like Wicca), you'll need to be initiated via a system of training and degrees. If you intend working alone, you don't need anyone to tell you at what point you are a witch. You'll know it.

So it's more like, "I'd like to become a witch. I'll begin my study today."

Have fun with your circles :)

Personally, I think 15 is still a little too young. You need to do a fair amount of study and also embark on a journey of self-knowledge. Witches are wise people who have a fair amount of life experience.

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on November 24, 2019:

Hi Jayla,

13 is much too young to be considering practicing witchcraft. You need a lot more life experience before you can call yourself a 'wise' person. My advice is to carry on reading up on it, figuring out how to define your future path, and working out who you really are. There's a lot of soul searching to be done. Keeping a journal is always a good idea.

Another thing you can do - as witches are often active in their communities - is to do some voluntary work. Perhaps helping the elderly or at an animal shelter or similar. Think of it as gaining that necessary life experience.

Good luck.

I am just know looking to get further into it and I am confused on how to start. (If I have the ability to do so) since I am at a young age I can not simply buy materials easily and my parents think that “witchcraft” or anything of the sort is just silly magic. If you know sources where I can get materials cheap or where to get them that would be very helpful! (I have looked at your links) I am not very religious as I do not believe in a Christian god. I have since being a child had, what I can only describe as abilities. I have been able to look into someone’s eyes, only at the first meeting and feel or see (not sure) the struggles they have suffered and their insecurities, whether they were trustworthy or not. I could understand them? I have also been able to sense things about to occur, have a knowing of a positive or negative outcome. My dreams often come true, sometimes I dream about people or events that haven’t happened, unaware at the time, and then lo and behold I meet the person or am in the event later on in life. There have also been times where I, in strong emotional states, have caused things to happen-a Christmas tree falling with broken ornaments when I was 14 and had just been broken up with, I wished it to happen...I also often see people’s auras, but not by choice...I can also call animals, which has always been very strange to me. I’ve always thought of myself as a sensitive human being, but I would like to be able to somehow harness or explore these things. I just don’t know where to begin, or if I’m just crazy or a narcissist! My career path is that of a healer, I am a nurse. Am I crazy, or is this a gift? Am I psychic or a witch??? I am drawn to tarot and astrology, and palm reading. I have strong core beliefs in human and universe reactions, past present and future affects, and the marks left. How do I discover if this is something I can develop?

Hi Bev G

Thank you for getting back to me so fast , and your personal experience with doing spells was very helpful in answering my questions.Have a nice weekend

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on April 26, 2019:

Hi EMSS, I just noticed that the spells I put a lot of effort into and thought about the most didn't work as well as the ones that I did quickly and forgot almost immediately.

For example, my stepson (17 at the time) had gone 'missing'. Not in a bad way, he'd just had a fight with his mother and had gone off for a couple of days. My partner asked me to do a small spell just to know that he was ok.

I did a quick candle spell, took about five minutes. I was busy doing other things and immediately took my attention off it. 15 minutes later the boy phoned me. Not his mother or father. He was staying with a friend, which was what we'd thought. So all was well.

So, yes, just do your spells and then get on with your life. And don't do too many either. Just when you really need them.

EMSSon April 26, 2019:

Hi Bev G

Thank you for getting back to me I will take your advice when I cast spells I will mentally leave it alone, I will not keep thing when will the spell take effect, and why is it taking so longe. I will move on to the next spells, and apply the same thing just keep looking for the results to happen when it does .

What you was explaining by keep wondering when will the spell happen there is a energetic interference that will effect the outcome of the spell, or weaken the results to happen. When you first starting doing spells did you dealt with the same thing how did you deal with it ?

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on April 26, 2019:

Hi EMSS, thank you, it was lovely. Hope yourse was the same.

The best way to ensure your spells are effective is to mentally leave them alone. Wondering when it will happen is energetic interference. Move on to the next thing :)

Hi Anne,

It's different. Witchcraft encompasses a wide range of practices from the spiritual to the mundane. For example from meditation through to herbalism.

So a witch could focus on the opening of the third eye, or s/he might work on deepening the intuition, or studying the properties of crystals, trees or plants. Witchcraft covers a very broad spectrum.

Anneon April 06, 2019:

I'm just curious, when studying and learning witchcraft, is it the same as opening your third eye? Or is it different?

Tarot is a great place to start, Lewanda. I was drawn to witchcraft and then got diverted to studying and reading tarot for years. So get yourself a good book and some willing volunteers and don't look back.

When you are confident enough, you can start giving free readings on sites like the ATA (American Tarot Network).

Alongside that, you can carry on studying witchcraft, if you wish.

Hi, I’m 19 and I am looking for some advice, but to be honest I’m not even sure what on. I have been interested in the concept of magic since a very young age, i lived in a haunted house as a child and i remember hearing the walls talking to me and having a deep connection with the home before i moved. I tried pursuing witchcraft for the first time when I was around 14 years old, but I had some emotional issues at the time which i think restricted me so i made the decision to put my journey on hold until i was a little older. I have recently bought some tarot cards, as I think this will be the appropriate start for me. I have always had some psychic ability, and I believe magic is in my blood from my ancestors (though this is not confirmed). I don’t have any friends or relatives that believe in witchcraft of magic, and I think that has always been a boundary for me as I don’t have anyone I can speak to or ask for advice from. What do you think is my best course of action? I have done some research but I struggle find anything that I can relate to or what I think feels real. Hi Alexis, if you are in your early teens (I can't tell), then my best advice is to spend some time in research and study. Being a witch requires quite a bit of life experience.

You don't need other people to be a witch. A solitary witch follows his or her own path. This article might help://www.qipsosim.com/wicca-witchcraft/What-Kind-o...

Hi LMG, the year of study is just a guideline. It's also advice I give to younger teens - if they do spend a year in study, then they will know soon enough whether it's a path they want to stay on or not.

You can call yourself whatever you want, whenever you want. However, I think that before taking on the mantle of 'witch', it's good to know how to explain/tell other people what you do.

So my advice to you is to now research the various traditions and see if any (or more than one) appeal to you. Then study that/those paths in depth.

Dear Bev,

My friend and I were curious about a bracelet she had received from a friend. It is a black bracelet with her initials in it. Her friend informed her that the bracelet would allow her to see things that others couldn't and that since it was homemade that it will fall off. A little freaked out, my friend accepted the gift anyway.

Later on, she was a different friends house when the bracelet fell off. And after it fell off she said she saw a man running up and down the stairs but nobody else was in the house beside her friend. She was to only one who could see him. She then later found out that her friend's house was built on an old military training ground and she believes that the man she saw was the spirit of a training military trainee.

Both my friend and I are really curious what this bracelet could have been and if it was dangerous. If you could please let me know more information about this mysterious bracelet it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and I hope you have a great day.

Okay, I see about the concentration thing. Well, when I do spells, none of them last longer than five minutes. I set it all up beforehand, and by that I mean working out what I'm going to say by writing it down. The spell takes as long as it takes to work up some feeling about the outcome, which isn't long if it means a lot to me. I speak the words aloud three times, end it with ' And let it harm none'. And that's it. You can cast and close a circle if you want to. Usually I don't.

Thanks for your answer in Q&A. It coukd be a nerve thing, you’re right. I have had fun with it though from a non witchcraft point of view (grounding my thoughts, a stressball). In any case nerves, or some form of energy, I’ll put it to use and see what happens.

deepspacemonkeyon December 16, 2018:

Hello and thanks for answering. Spells and techniques for those who have the conditions. I’ve been adapting learning techniques for other areas in my life (education) and already started adapting mindfulness/ techniques for non witchcraft purposes. Concentrating for more than 5 to 10 minutes is hard and some spells I’ve read ask for focus for more than 20 minutes. I’m learning but it’s taking time. So basically something quicker, adapted for those with the condition. In any case I’ll find a way and maybe i can help others eventually. Not impatient, just struggle to concentrate. Some pages seem too wordy and I struggle with those. These pages are good so far.

As for the hand I’ve asked about medical causes and they’ve either ignored me or ruled it out so it’s not a worry, I think I was concerned because I just can’t find a reason for it. It’s just there. Hopefully I’ll find out one day but I’ll have fun with it as you suggest. I’m somewhat ambidexterous, but a little right hand dominated (I chose my writing hand as a child, some of my family is left handed and it got me confused when I was little, but the other kids were using their right hands so I chose that) but I like what you suggest so I’ll do that. Thanks for your reply.

有一个很棒的一天!希望我的声音不太疯狂or like I’m making fun, I’m not, just my wording can be wrong.

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on December 16, 2018:

在t你好SpaceMonkey,我回答了这个问题he other section as best I can. I really can't give you a definitive explanation because I've never heard of this before. I would suggest you rule out any medical cause, especially if it is bothering you.

It would be fun to try and make use of it while working a spell. The left hand (if not your dominant one) is the 'receiving' hand. So, if you were working to achieve a certain outcome, you could visualize it coming to you via your left hand. Put your whole attention into the hand for a moment or two and imagine the desire (doesn't matter if it is a real thing or an abstract one) materializing in your hand.

Spells for ADHD or dyslexia/dyspraxia? Not sure what you are asking? Spells to alleviate it, or spells for people who are on the spectrum. If the first, not really, but you could adapt any basic spell to ask for increased adeptness, or for understanding/acceptance from those around you. It depends what you want from it.

Good luck with it all and do come and ask any more questions. Though I can't promise to know the answers :)

deepspacemonkeyon December 16, 2018:

Thanks for the article. I asked in questions but I couldn’t see what I was writing (on my ipad) and it may be a bit long.

I’ve had a strange feeling in my hands since I was a kid. There are photos of me looking at my hands and It sounds a little weird but I’ve been drawn to my own hands and i’ve focused on them.

The feeling is strongest in my left hand by far. I’ve never found an explanation for it and it drives me crazy. Aside from that I see visual snow, the air sparkles to me in sunlight (I also see dark particles in the air too) and I have constant tinnitus. Now the 2nd & 3rd can be explained as a neurological condition (apart from the sparkling) but I think there may be more to it.

The hand thing is driving me nuts. It’s always moving and changing form, it’s like putty and I can manipulate it.

I get closed eye visuals, dream heavily and have seen orbs, shadows and all sorts of odd things.

至于手的事情,你知道它be? It drives me nuts although it’s kind of cool (works like a stress ball if I want it to, helps take my mind off things). Could it be a form of energy and could i put it to good use in witchcraft? Can I use the dreaming?

Any spells or studies for those of us with ADHD and dyslexia/dyspraxia and those on the autism spectrum?

Thanks for the article, I’ll tidy and smudge my room and do this.

Hello again, Kendall :)

What I suggest is that you take it in baby steps. You don't go from non-witch to fully-fledged witch in a few days. Explore, learn, experiment.

I have a ton of articles that might help. Start with this one:

Just. Have. Fun.

Hello Bev,

I have been reading articles on witchcraft for the past few weeks and I feel that I have been drawn to the idea of witchcraft, but I do not experience any premonitions or know how to feel energy. Nor have I met my spirit animal or feel that I have opened my third eye. I am almost 16 and I want to practice witchcraft, but don't know if I "have what it takes" if you know what I mean. Is there a way to help me discover my more "witchy side"? Or can I not become a witch because I don't show all the signs?

I loved your article and I hope you can help me find answers.

Hi Bev G

Would you please explain the elements in witchcraft I have a some understanding of it what is has to do with nature

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on September 20, 2018:

Hi J. Sounds like you did it perfectly. Your own words will be more powerful than any I could give you.

Good luck

Jon September 15, 2018:

I have always had a strong connection to both the elements and to energy. I am a very influential person and others emotions often affect me. This has drawn me to witchcraft for several years now. The element I feel closest to is air, and I feel that it responds to me when I call it.

I recently cast my first circle and spell, and was hoping to get your thoughts. I am in a crossroads with my career, and I am looking into a change of careers.

First, I read that waxing Crescent phase was a good time to channel “constructive energy”. So basically here is what I did. I cast my circle, in the correct manner. Once my circle was cast I took a minute and brought my intimate connection with each element to mind to focus my thoughts and intentions. Next my spell.

Air, guardian of the East, I ask for your wisdom to see the right path

Fire, guardian of the South, I ask for your courage to see my choice through

Water, guardian of the West, I ask for your adaptability to adjust to new environments

Earth, guardian of the North, I ask for your strength to ground me in my choices

I ask for the guidance and the chance to be presented for the most fitting career

I also wrote the spell down and bound the paper with a single drop of blood, and then closed my circle. Afterwards, I felt a strange calm.

Was wondering if you had any thoughts on how to better word the spell, binding agents, etc.

Blessed be

Hi BShaneB, have a read through this list of witchcraft traditions and see if any resonate with you.

//www.qipsosim.com/wicca-witchcraft/What-Kind-o...

When you fine one that sounds good, start researching it. Remember, it's perfectly fine to take a little from one, and a little from another. Your path can be as unique as you are.

当你不能改变过去,ems, change how you view/remember those things. I recommend you go on YouTube and look for videos by Esther Hicks/Abraham. They will help you to understand that a good life is all about how you perceive it.

So if you take a past apparently negative event, you can choose to see how bad it was, or you can choose to see that it helped you grow spiritually, that it made you a stronger person and brought you to where you are now.

Hi Bev G

I have not been on for a while I read the other day what p3 dealing with so i feel I could talk about this. I just lost some one very special to me and I am hurting in pain. Went through years of medical treatment and I have other family who are sick in my life so many bad things has happen in my life for many years and wish many time to change the past there had to be a way I felt. I have been doing spell to unlimited wish what ever I want I put all my emotion visualization in to it to change the past for my family and I. I did try healing spells. I did read about a witch can change the past to what they would like to be. When I do the spell I have strong pulse of energy in my body. You did say maybe one day could be done, or maybe it is being done. Right now I am studying witchcraft and reading your article has explain so many things to me. I am new at this If you ever find out information about changing the past please let me know. Your comments from the questions I have sent you have been very helpful with information.

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on August 09, 2018:

You have to understand that death is a natural part of life and trying to interfere with a person's passing (unless it is feasible for medical staff to save them) is not a good thing for any witch to do.

You cannot bring anyone back from the dead and you cannot change the past to change the present. One day, we might discover how to do this but not at the moment.

If you are new to witchcraft you should not be trying to work with energy you do not yet know how to control. It is extremely dangerous. You start with small steps and as you progress, you can be more ambitious.

For now, please stop what you are doing and learn your craft.

A family was very sick I was doing healing spells and witch spells to heal and to change our lives in the past so this life did not happen this way. I am new to witchcraft I felt the magic energy going trough my body felt warn I put all my emotions and visualizing they are better they still died.I would visualizing our lives changing in the past they way I would want to be. I read witches have to powers to bring back someone who died and change the past so things did not happen, believed being a witch learning how to control magic energy would help my family and me? Do you know how to do this I need guides.

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on July 12, 2018:

Hi Rin, you don't need any tools to be a witch. None. It's a total fallacy that you have to have them. Tools are there to help you focus and to raise your spiritual energy. However, they are not really magickal on their own.

Try this://www.qipsosim.com/wicca-witchcraft/Simple-Witc...

Hi, um my parents are wary of anything to do with witchcraft, and that means I can’t buy tools without looking suspicious. Is there anything I can do ?

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on June 09, 2018:

I'm sorry, Akira, I misunderstood. No, I don't know of anyone who can help you with this, but you could try techniques to enable you to close down your abilities. I would guess that visualization might work. Perhaps you could enlist the help of a volunteer? Someone who wouldn't mind being a guinea pig.

Akira Thornon June 08, 2018:

I asked you a question about if you've seen anyone who can control peoples emotions and you told me that it is not something many can do, I am well aware of that, it is a horrible ''gift" when you have no idea how to control it. The question wasn't about someone needing not to do something without another person's permission but if you knew of someone out there like me who could help me. I don't like pushing emotions onto people but I don't know how to stop. Now I'm ranting, I am sorry. Thank you for writing an article to help women who don't know that they are a witch, I may come from a line of witches but no one in my family has my "gift" they mostly just see visions. So any help you could offer of how to turn my "gift" off or at least able to manage, would be great.

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on May 16, 2018:

Eyes open or closed, whichever feels best at the time. We all have the magic energy, EMSS, it's how we direct it that's important. You can send it back to the earth just by visualizing it when you touch the ground. You can reabsorb it into your body, or you can send it to someone else.

I recommend you get some books on the subject. Witches love their books. Try anything by Lisa Chamberlain. Good luck.

EMSSon May 16, 2018:

HI Bev G

Thank you for explaining about meditation and how to do it.

I have been doing the meditation the way you explain I have my eyes open or at times closed is both ways right? I do feel pulses of energy like sparkles.in my hands and it goes through my body I have always had this feeling but I did not know what it could be. Some time it will just start happening or if I am thinking about sometime I want to happen/ Does this mean I have the magic energy working. Will I be able to control my magic ?

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on April 30, 2018:

EMSS, you can just start by sitting still. Breathe steadily and focus on feeling the breath, in and out. Rest your hands loosely in your lap and just breathe and see if you can feel the energy in your body as a white light. Allow the light to expand and envelop you. Then let the light fade away. When you're ready get up and do the stamping feet thing and have a drink of water x

Hi Bev G

Thank you for explaining about magic energy feels what type of meditation, should I do to help me with the magic energy I am new at this so how could I get started, and where do I find this information

EMSS,on April 30, 2018:

Hi

Hi Bev G

I have known I could be a witch I have read all the information it say I am a natural witch with magic powers does this mean my powers will start awakening I have always had this feeling for many years why is the time now and not years ago as a child ?

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on April 19, 2018:

Hi EMSS,

I think everyone could feel this energy if they paid attention to their body. That means we all have the ability to work magic.

When you finished working a spell. Do a grounding meditation, then eat and drink something, or stamp your feet. Like Taylor says, "Shake it off."

EMSSon April 19, 2018:

Hi Bev G

Thank you for explaining magic energy feel like I do get my hands tingle. and it goes up my arms and my body and my body feels something going through it like energy when i am thinking about something I would like to happen our it would just happen , and when my emotions are high depending what is happening at that time, I try to focus on it or trying to doing spells I would always have this feeling a lot for a long time I did not know what it was. Does this mean I have magic energy? how could I learn how to control it my powers ?

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on April 16, 2018:

I'll copy in the answer I just gave on another article., EMSS.

I expect it feels different for different people, so I can only explain how it feels for me.

When I am about to do anything 'magickal', whether it's a ritual, circle-casting, spell, or sometimes (but not always) a tarot reading, I feel my hands begin to tingle. Sometimes I only have to think about it and they start. As I stretch my fingers, I can feel little pulses of energy like sparkles. And, although I feel it in my hands first, I think it comes up through my feet.

Then, if I am still and focused I can direct the sparkles around my body and out through my hands. There are no actual visible sparkles; it just feels like that. I am Reiki attuned, so that might be part of it, though I seem to remember it started before that.

就像一个连接宇宙的魔法能量。You can experience it in activities like singing, meditating, sport, all kinds of things. You might feel it when you look in your dog's eyes. Or when standing on a beach when the waves are crashing.

EMSSon April 16, 2018:

Hi

I was wondering if you could explain what magic energy feels like. Could you also explain about what is magic energy?

Bev G (author)from Wales, UK on April 04, 2018:

Of course. Many witches work outside. And you don't have to use candles if you want to work indoors.

You make it work for you. There are no rules.

Like you I have all the signs of being a witch but I don't think this happens to witches or it would've said so in the article. But the the strange thing is when it happens I don't feel trapped by it, I feel free like I can do anything I feel fearless. Since it started I've been a lot less interested in people if that makes any sense I prefer being alone than around people. As far as I know this doesn't happen to any of my relatives so I don't think it's genetic.how old were you when it it started?
